COMPREHENSIVE VS. COLLISION, WHICH IS WHICH?

Comprehensive and collision are the two types of physical damage coverage available on car insurance policies, but, they are often confused with one another. So, I put together some quick examples to help you know which is which.

COMPREHENSIVE

  • Your car is damaged by hail or a natural disaster

  • An object falls on your car, such as a tree branch

  • Your car is keyed by vandals

  • An animal damages your car, most commonly deer

COLLISION

  • Your car hits an object, such as a telephone pole

  • Your car collides with another vehicle

  • Your car slides on ice and rolls over

  • Your car is damaged from running over a pothole

In other words, COLLISION covers exactly that-when your vehicle collides with another object.

COMPREHENSIVE on the other hand, covers your vehicle against physical damage caused by anything other than a collision.

I hope this helps.

Happy driving...

Be safe out there.
